LOL is a non-profit event that was borne out of a simple question that was asked on a Facebook page stating “what can you do effortlessly without flinching” to which I responded, “comedy”.
This simple yet heartfelt response birthed a community comedy event that has over the years impacted people positively in the area of promoting positive mental wellbeing through entertainment and advocacy.
The first LOL held in 2014 was a free event comprised chiefly of women, friends, and members of the community who had gathered together for the sole purpose of having an exciting evening of fun laughter in a stress-free environment. The evening was lauded a resounding success that later morphed into an annual event as requested by the first set of guests and became a platform to promote positive mental well being.
LOL then grew from just a simple evening of entertainment to adding values to the lives of people in the area of mental health. It became a platform to promote positive mental wellbeing as well as raising much-needed funds for charities in the areas of mental health and special needs education of which ST. Laserians school for special needs children has been a key beneficiary of the event over the years. All proceeds raised from ticket sales go to designated charities and recipients differ yearly.
LOL is unique in itself as it uses comedy to push the message of mental health and awareness. It is simple yet strategic in execution.
Guests are hosted in a relaxed ambience and learn how to manage their mental health in a humorous manner without diminishing the seriousness of mental health issues.
Funding for every event is mostly from contributions of friends and well-wishers who believe in the vision of the project.
